Hope everyone had a great holiday break and got some down time to enjoy some good beers, food and probably a lot of Netflix. We are excited to get back on track with our series, A Beer, A Bite and a Brewery. For this one, we have decided to focus on some classic beers with our long-time partners at Brasserie V, the European specialty importers, Merchant du Vin.
Specialty beer importer Merchant du Vin was founded in 1978, a time when Americans could not buy the world’s classic beer styles – in fact, unless they had travelled to Europe most Americans had never even heard of pale ale, hefeweizen, or Trappist ale. Merchant du Vin’s portfolio of beers comes from the nations with deep, rich brewing traditions: England, Scotland, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
For this event we will be joined by our longtime friend and Central Region Manager, Jim Blockinger. Jim is extremely knowledgeable about all the breweries and their beers, and has visited all of them in person. He will be sharing some great stories, backgrounds, and pictures of each brewery as we share and talk about each beer.

Here is more info on each of the beers:
Orval – Three different malts, two types of hops, Belgian candi sugar, complex fermentation with multiple yeasts, dry-hopping and bottle conditioning all contribute to the great character and complexity of Orval
Ayinger Celebrator – A rich, dark elixir with cascading layers of malt complexity balanced by elegant hops. Notes of toffee, caramel, graceful dark-malt roastiness, and the essence of barley.
Traquair House Jacobite – A strong ale based on an ancient recipe, Jacobite Ale is spiced with hops as well as another traditional and ancient seasoning: coriander. Deep brown color; rich aroma of spice, chocolate and leather; full, creamy body.
Rochefort 8 – Deep brown color; the flavor is vigorous and complex, with firm body to support the strength. The aroma has elusive notes of fresh fruit, spice, leather, and figs.
